NASB | James 2:14 ¶ What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 2:14 ¶ What is the benefit, my fellow believers, if someone claims to have faith but has no [good] works [as evidence]? Can that [kind of] faith save him? [No, a mere claim of faith is not sufficient--genuine faith produces good works.] |
Bible Question: I've read the commentaries listed on Biblegateway and tend to agree with the statement he wants Christians to have faith that works. What do you think. |
Bible Answer: AndyM, Greetings and welcome to the forum. This has been a much discussed topic here on the forum. Read through the context of this passage James 2:14-26 you will find the greek word pistis used here, pistis is an action verb. Many times people will link faith and mental ascent. Mental ascent faith is not. What we do evidences our faith or lack of it, Philippians 2:12 will also add some persective to this subject also. In Christ, lionheart |
