Bible Question:
In Mark 2: 18 - 22, Jesus gives 3 reasons why his disciples do not fast. I understand the explanation of the friends of the groom celebrating in his presence but what does putting new wine in old wineskins and new patches on old garments have to do with fasting? |
Bible Answer: james 1:5-6. our scriptural text relates to your question however scripture is to be taken literally first all the time and then figuratively. Jesus as the authority is saying that the old way, he is called the way, the truth and the life (the new way) will not mix with the old. as he has fulfilled the old he opens the way for the new way which is Christ. The pharisees were referring to ceremonial laws (fasting, etc) these were to be done away w/ by Jesus(he fulfilled the old)as he was obedient to GOD and the law were man could not. this is what makes him the greatest of all the Jews and the son of God as no one else could complete this task. one more point scripturally Jesu does not condemn fasting but what he does is tell us that it can bring great success in our walk but it is not mandatory it is by choice, thereby one's level of maturity in Christ. I am is perfect not me but in Christ we can do all things. |
