NASB | James 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 1:27 Pure and unblemished religion [as it is expressed in outward acts] in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit and look after the fatherless and the widows in their distress, and to keep oneself uncontaminated by the [secular] world. |
Bible Question: This question may be consideed an appeal. Nowadays, believers are claiming to have no religion - yet James 1:27 mentions a pure and undefiled religion is ... Maybe our goal is to have this type of religion which can only be accomplished by a healthy relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Is Christianity a religion identified by Christians - those who are Christ-like? Or should we allow "Christian" to just be a concept, idea or lean-to. I think if we would boldly challenge or qualify those who say I'm a Christian we could do some serious witnessing. What do you think? |
Bible Answer: fellowlaborer, You make a good point.I think that even as christians we many times take a worldly view of religion. What the secular world calls religion God calls idolitry. If we take religion within the context of James 1:27 we can see that religion as stated within this verse is the result of a living vital relationship with Jesus Christ. It's our priority and responsibilty to keep God and his Word first in all aspects of our life. Matt 6:33. In Christ, lionheart |
