Bible Question (short): Trials or Temptations |
Question (full): I taught on James 1 this morning (7/27) and had a question come up about this verse. The person asking the question is a very devoted KJV reader and KJ says "temptations" not trials. All my commentary information followed along a definition of external events which come into the life of people (loss of job, health, prodigal child etc....) Later in James the use of the word "temptation" is used in the sense most think of, an enticement to sin. I did not have an answer as to why trial was a better translation than tribulation. As I type this, I will be continuing my search to see if I can find a reason for thinking trials is a better translation than temptations. Are the words trials and temptations the same in Greek ? To me there is quite a difference between trials and temptations. Thanks for your help. KenD |
