Bible Question: I married a man who I convinced myself was God's will for me. I am a Christian and he was a non-practicing Catholic. He expressed some interest in pursuing a relationship with God, but as time has worn on, it's only gone downhill. He has no relationship with God now. I have repented for this decision, but I have extreme guilt as I see what his personality and lack of God in it is doing to my family. I also don't know how to cope with the emotional abuse he puts me through. Of course I am praying for him, but now I have to learn to cope wtih what I have to until change is made. Any suggestions? |
Bible Answer: A very tough place to be...and exactly why God warns us against yoking ourselves together with unbelievers. God does have grace when we make mistakes, though as I have seen in my own life after doing something similar. My advice? Do continue to pray for him, as well as the family members involved. The emotional abuse can be difficult to deal with, but it comes down to knowing what is the truth. If you know the bible, and believe it, then if he were to tell you you are worthless, for example, you can be sure that isn't true. You are worth the life of the son of God. Put on the armor of God, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and use your sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Just remember who your enemy is-not your husband, but spirits...of lying, of hurtfulness, and so on. (see Ephesians 6:11-17)The other thing is, do NOT preach at your husband. "In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, " 1Peter 3:1 This was and is the hardest thing for me to obey...keep my mouth shut? ME???? Yet it was one of the most helpful things I read. I hope this helps! |
