AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 8:9 NOT LIKE THE COVENANT THAT I MADE WITH THEIR FATHERS ON THE DAY WHEN I TOOK THEM BY THE HAND TO LEAD THEM OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT; FOR THEY DID NOT ABIDE IN MY COVENANT, AND SO I WITHDREW MY FAVOR and DISREGARDED THEM, SAYS THE LORD. |
Bible Question (short): OT Promises for New Testament believers? |
Question (full): Greetings Johnny. Thank you for your reply. I agree we are not under the Law. And I also agree that as Gentiles, we have no "right" to the land that God promised as a possession to Israel. However, I base my reasoning upon Gen 17:19. God specifically DENIES the descendents of Ishmael from His promise of the land. Some may argue that as believers, we are ingrafted branches into Israel and therefore suggest that as "adopted" children we too have a "right" to the promised land. Yet, throughout Scripture we see earthly reminders of a Heavenly reality. OUR inheritance is an eternal one, a promised land that will never fade away . . . However, I am more interested in whether or not we can appropriate the PROMISES of God in the OLD Testament. For example, see the passage in Jer 29:11-14. Can believers draw comfort from these promises to the nation of Israel in exile? Why or why not? Please support your answer. Blessings, Mommapbs |
