NASB | Hebrews 6:18 so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 6:18 so that by two unchangeable things [His promise and His oath] in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled [to Him] for refuge would have strong encouragement and indwelling strength to hold tightly to the hope set before us. |
Bible Question:
I would like to ask about Biblical prophecy. My question is this: where in the Bible does it say that future prophesied events are immutable and can not be changed? In other words, are there specific guarantees made that prophetic events such as the Second Coming must come to pass? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Loran James! There are God's prophecies and man's prophecies... Man's are just like the daily horoscope (just as an example--it is a sinful activity to engage in that religion) or the daily weather prognostication: anything could happen, might happen or nothing happens... some of the times, man's prophecies are educated guesses... most of the times not even that... God's prophecies are God's revelations of things that will happen at a scheduled time, according to God's Will... As an example: Jesus told the disciples, around AD 33, that the Temple (Israel's major place of worship) would be destroyed and that not one stone on top of a stone would be left... on AD 70 the Romans suppressed a Jewish rebellion and they saw it necessary to destroy their Temple (till then, they had tolerated Israel's religious practrices within the Roman empire)... it's been nearly two thousand years and Temple has remained as Jesus fortold! God Bless! Angel |
