NASB | Hebrews 2:17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 2:17 Therefore, it was essential that He had to be made like His brothers (mankind) in every respect, so that He might [by experience] become a merciful and faithful High Priest in things related to God, to make atonement (propitiation) for the people's sins [thereby wiping away the sin, satisfying divine justice, and providing a way of reconciliation between God and mankind]. |
Bible Question (short): Confusion concerning Jesus's death |
Question (full): Would someone please explain, in simple terms, why Jesus had to die in order for people to be saved? And if He took on all our sins, then why isn't He spending eternity in hell? Was it a real sacrifice, His death, if He takes on all the sins and goes to Heaven? I am very confused. Help. |
