Bible Note: Hi cast net, The passage in Hebrews 12:5 is "the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons." So it is not talking about the Son being disciplined here but rather the sons. My point is that if we do not recognize Him as the Father then we are illegitimate children and not sons. 1) In regard to God disciplining Himself, I was led to Isaiah 53:4, "Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed (Him) stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted." 1 John 2:2, "and He (Himself) is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world." Hebrews 12:3, "For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against (Himself), so that you may not grow weary and lose heart." 2) Hebrews 12:5, "and you have forgotten the exhoration which is addressed to you as sons, "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, Nor faint when you are reproved by *Him." Job 5:17, "Behold, how happy is the man whom *God reproves, So do not despise the discipline of the Almighty." From the heart, Ray |
