Bible Question:
Is there a Biblical imperative for christians to belong to a church or to attend a church? |
Bible Answer: Hebrews 10:25 tells us this, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Here is a good example of what Paul admonished the Hebrews to do, and although this includes attending church it also includes the fulfillment of Jesus promise found in Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Going to church is good and honorable, but when church tries to make the bible fit their denomination we need to find another church that makes the denomination fit the bible. Although personally I do not attend any formal worship service weekly, I assemble together having bible studies online, and whenever I get a chance any time any where. As for belonging to a denomination, the main focus should be "sola scriptura" the bible only. Any church tradition or dogma that twists God's word is something we should steer clear of. |
