AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 1:3 The Son is the radiance and only expression of the glory of [our awesome] God [reflecting God's Shekinah glory, the Light-being, the brilliant light of the divine], and the exact representation and perfect imprint of His [Father's] essence, and upholding and maintaining and propelling all things [the entire physical and spiritual universe] by His powerful word [carrying the universe along to its predetermined goal]. Bible Question:
Can someone please explain the term " Word of His power"(nasb) // " His mighty word of power" (amp)? I understand it to mean that in order for God's power to operate, we must speak His word. His power actually operates by us speaking His word. His power is released through His Word. Help!!! |
Bible Answer: This is a very deep verse in Hebrews. First of all, refer back to St.John 1:1,"In the beggining was the word and the word was with God and the word was God." Jesus Christ is that word that John refers to. Christ Jesus is that spoken word that operated in Gen.1:1 when God said let their be light. This is very much spiritual, when God spoke the word, the word that he had spoken was Christ being manifested. For ex. when a man speaks, his voice allows you to here the word from his lips. When God speaks it gives Christ authority to operate and we can see the evidence of it because they are one. God's word is not just verbal but it is in action, it is Christ operating and becoming the "Let their be." God is now operating all things by his word, which is Christ Jesus. This means that Christ is actually running the whole universe with the authority of God. Christ is the word of his power that Heb 1:3 speaks of. Read Heb 1:10 and St. John 1:3 which goes on to say that all things were created by Jesus Christ. Inorder for you to have power it is not from speaking the word but rather from Christ living in you. Christ living in us is what actually gives us power to operate. This same power is what teaches and allows a man to live holy. Without this power no man can live holy. Christ is the word of his power that offered himself and died for the world. He is the one on the right hand of the father. Let me know if this helps you out any. Andrew jr |
