Subject: Biblical warrant to engage in debates? |
Bible Note: Kalos I guess to answer this correctly we have to ask two questions. One who initiates the debate? Two is the debate a venue that share points of view or is it a nice term used to describe what is really an argument? 1 Peter 3:15 tells us to be ready to give a “defense” if anyone asks us of our hope. To me this sounds like we are to defend not attack. Therefore I don’t think we should instigate a debate but we should be prepared to hold our own. Titus 3:10 to me says make you point if it is accepted great if not try again with clarity. Again if it is accepted great if not walk away. This to me eliminates any form of argument. However if invited to debate “religion” with a pagan I see nothing wrong in practicing good apologetics and joining the debate. EdB |
