Subject: The husband of only one wife? |
Bible Note: Let me resubmit this without the typo's. I apologize to all. I really believe Dr. Stanley did himself, his family and his church a disservice not stepping out of the pulpit, but he does not answer to me. I pray for his sake that he had the leading of the Lord on this. I'm also very glad to hear that Dr. Stanley and his wife are attempting reconciliation as you reported. As to the scripture "husband of one wife" does anymore have to be said? If God was just excluding divorce he would have said not divorced. If God was just excluding polygamy He would have said no polygamist. However what he said was husband of one wife, put any spin on it you want that is what it says. By saying husband of one wife is it saying divorce is a sin that can’t be forgiven. Not at all, that argument is absurd. That would be the same as saying fornication can’t be forgiven because once a woman has sex she can’t be a virgin again. There is sin and there is consequences to sin. We seem to think if we are forgiven of our sin the consequences should also go away, but they don’t. If someone goes and has unlimited sex, they can be forgiven of that sin, but they may still carry the consequences of that sex in form of AIDS or Herpes for the rest of their lives. If someone robs a bank and shoots the guard he can ask for forgiveness and receive it but he will probably still have to go to jail or even give his life. Well then what does it mean if the man can’t be elder? Does that mean he has to sit in the corner and do nothing the rest of his life? No! He can teach, he can minister the word of God, can preach to sick and afflicted, he can visit the prisoner, the orphan, the widow, the homeless, the lost and they dying, he can share Jesus with the world. He just shouldn’t be elder (pastor) in the church. EdB |
