Bible Note: Jr. Deacon and brother justme: Greetings: Just a couple thoughts on the work of an overseer. First of all it is a good work. 1 Tim. 3:1 It is not a position, but a work which I believe will be evident in the life of the person who desires this work. It is not for a novice (1 Tim. 3:6) The overseerers in the early church were appointed by the Holy Spirit: "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." (Acts 20:28) An overseer is a undershepherd, under Christ the good Shepherd. It is a work of giving, self sacrificing and grace which includes: leading by example, feeding from God's word, protecting from false teachers and watching for the souls of the flock.
