NASB | 2 Timothy 4:5 But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Timothy 4:5 But as for you, be clear-headed in every situation [stay calm and cool and steady], endure every hardship [without flinching], do the work of an evangelist, fulfill [the duties of] your ministry. |
Bible Question: How do you know if this command to do the work of an evangelist is addressed to Timothy alone or all believers? |
Bible Answer: Lionstrong, It would appear from the context of the whole epistle that the primary literal interpretation is one of a personal exhortation to Timothy to persevere in his role as a pastor, teacher and evangelist. But that does not mean there is no appcation to the individual Christian, who in the home is the primary evangelist of children and on the job may evangelise by actions, if not with words, but sometimes in both ways. We all are called to be priests, prophets and kings by our baptism, but we may exercise those roles in different settings and with different particular gifts. Emmaus |
