AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Timothy 3:8 Just as Jannes and Jambres [the court magicians of Egypt] opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, unqualified and worthless [as teachers] in regard to the faith. [Ex 7:11] |
Bible Question:
Who were Jannes and Jambres? The cross reference is to Pharaoh's magicians, but they are not mentioned. Is this in Apocraphah? |
Bible Answer: Dear Mike, John Gill writes that the "Targum of Jonathan has these words: 'and Pharaoh called the wise men and the magicians; and Janis and Jambres, the magicians of the Egyptians, did so by the enchantments of their divinations.'" I don't believe I've ever looked at that particular targum. In Him, Doc |
