Bible Question: I have a friend that is having a hard time believing in Paul's writings. They asked me if I believed the Bible was inspired by God. Of course I said yes. Then they asked if I believed book. "The Purpose Driven Life" was inspired by GOd? I again said yes. So there response to me was..."Then why wasn't it in the Bible? There are so many books and lititure out there that was "insired by GOd" Why should what Paul worte be in the bible over any one else? It's just letters and they weren't even written to me?" My question is...how do I explain to them that it is truth? How do help them believe in what Paul wrote??? |
Bible Answer: Hello brie, The problem is that "The Purpose Driven Life" is not inspired by God. It is inspired by a man's desire and is a response to be used by God. There is a big difference, and that is why your friend is having difficulties. Inspiration means that God was actively involved in the production of the Bible. He superintended its writing and distribution through men. Because it is God's word, it has errors. "The Purpose Driven Life" is written by Rick Warren. God was not actively involved in its production. It has errors because it was produced solely by a man. Every book has errors because they are written solely by men and women. Now understand also that you cannot convince your friend that Paul's letters are true. The Holy Spirit does that. But you can show how even Peter thought Paul's words were Scripture (2 Peter 3:14-16) Steve |
