Bible Question: Can we figure out God's Truth by our selves? |
Bible Answer: The answer is no. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: The Bible is a supernatural book and can be understood only by supernatural aid. (A.W. Tozer) 1 Cor. 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned. Spiritual understanding requires discernment. We need the Holy Spirit's assistance to properly understand God's word. It's an erroneous assumption that spiritual truths can be intellectually perceived. If the brain were the key to spiritual understanding, the most intellectual persons would be the most Christ-like. (John McArthur Jr.) The word does not say; “no man knows the things of God except the man who studies the Bible.” It does say; that no man knows the things of God except by the Holy Spirit. “The Scriptures, to be understood, must be read with the same Spirit that originally inspired them.” (A.W. Tozer) Paul said: Gal. 1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that THE GOSPEL which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither RECEIVED it of man, neither was I taught [it], but BY the REVELATION of Jesus Christ. (Capitialization added for emphasis) We need Divine revelation to discern the truth of God's word in the way God intended |
