Bible Question: What exactly does it mean when it says that we will reign with Jesus or that we will be given certain positions in the afterlife? Will we have heavenly jobs? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Dat, 2 Timothy 2:12 "If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us." [NKJV] For related Scripture passages, see Rev. 1:6; 5:10; 20:4,6; 1 Cor. 6:2. Christians are redeemed in order to bring glory to God (1 Cor. 6:20). Any rewards that we receive from Christ are bestowed on us not for our own glory but ultimately for His glory (Rev. 4:10-11). The crown of life is given to those who persevere under trial, and especially to those who suffer to the point of death (James 1:12; Rev. 2:10). The crown of glory is given to those who faithfully and sacrificially minister God's Word to the flock (1 Peter 5:4). The crown incorruptible is given to those who win the race of temperance and self-control (1 Cor. 9:25). The crown of righteousness is given to those who long for the second coming of Christ (2 Tim. 4:8). Each believer will be glorifying God to the fullness of his capacity in the next life. Each one of us will "proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;" (1 Peter 2:9). Also see Isaiah 43:21. Blessings to you, Makarios |
