Subject: Church discipline? |
Bible Note: Greetings! As one who has had a ministry that ecounters this, I understand your word of caution here. If the problem is with an "elder" then obviously, the shepherd has this duty. But what of a church where there is no denominational administrative board to "oversee" discipline of the Pastor in the local church - WHO has this responsibility then, the elders? If the issue is with the Pastor, and the elders refuse to address sin in the church, then what? Are you saying that the parishioners are to remain silent, period? Although as you note, there are "specifics" in 1 Tim 5 that are not for all of us, are there general prinicples that can be applied here for all? Do we "wink" at sin by our silence? imo, everyone suffers when one is caught in the trap of unrepentant sin. If one is "allowed" to continue to conduct him/her self in an ungodly manner, meaning they are not confronted by others, do those who refuse to address (confront) the sinful behavior "participate" in it? This is what I am thinking about here. |
