Bible Question: is guided meditation allowed as a christian? |
Bible Answer: Hi, fearless... I'm not familiar with "guided meditation." I do know, though, that what is meant by meditation in Scripture is far different than what is meant by meditation in Eastern philosophies or in the so-called "transcendental meditation." God gave man a mind. His intention -- both tacit and expressed -- is that men are to employ their minds. The Bible calls the believer to fill his thoughts with the Word of God. It is a discipline that should be practiced by every child of God. Broadly, meditation seems to fit in two categories: discursive and systematic. Discursive meditation is fueling the fire of our affections for the Lord. Systematic meditation seeks to intentionally apply the whole range of Biblical truth to our lives.
