Bible Question:
Concerning 1 Tim 3:2 and Titus 1:6 listed here: 1Ti 3:2 Therefore, an elder must be blameless, the husband of one wife, stable, sensible, respectable, a lover of strangers, and teachable. Tit 1:6 An elder must be blameless. He must be the husband of one wife and have children who are believers and who are not accused of having wild lifestyles or of being rebellious. I understand and agree with God's hatred of divorce, but if a non-Christian wife, who committed adultery, fornication and homosexual acts abandons and divorces you after 7 years of living apart, is the man who was called to be a preacher penalized for his ex-wife's actions by being refused to follow that calling after having become a Christian? Does these two scriptures mean one and only wife, first wife and only wife, wife of life, or just one wife as it is stated. Can I still become a preacher? |
Bible Answer: bluemystic338, Where you a Christan when these events took place or did you come to faith after the fact? I fully belive the answer to your question is dependent on the answer to this question. If you where saved when you married and knew your wife was an unbeliver then you vilolated God Word by marring her however if you came to faith after the marriage and she refused the faith and left the marriage and you have done all that you can to reconcile the marriage and she refuses then you are free to go on with your life. As to can you be a preacher that is between you and God. I will give you the advice an old pastor gave me when I was wrestleing with my call to the ministry if you can do anything elese and have peace with God do not preach, but if you try and continues to convict your heart look for confirmation of your call once you have go foward. Hope this helps. In The Love Of Christ, tgc |
