Bible Question: What is the theme of 1 Timothy? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Yannah, The theme or purpose of 1 Timothy can be summed up in the following two verses: 1 Timothy 3:14-15 "I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long; but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth." (NASB) 1 Timothy could be broken down as follows: Chapter 1 - Instructions for False Doctrine Chapter 2 - Instructions for Worship Chapter 3 - Instructions for Church Leaders Chapter 4 - Instructions for false teaching Chapters 5 and 6 - Instructions for various duties Paul gave very practical and insightful instructions to the support and ministry of the Gospel in Ephesus. Paul charges Timothy (6:13-16) to preach the true Gospel without stain or reproach in the wake of false doctrine which was already a threat to the faith. Blessings to you, Makarios |
