AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Timothy 2:12 I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet [in the congregation]. |
Bible Question: i would like to know if this holds true if you have a women pastor, she cannot teach or preach...because the way i understand this is paul is talking to the ephesian women at a point in time. and i have had men tell me that a women shall not preach to a man. and i don't think that way.... |
Bible Answer: I belonged to a traditional Baptist Congregation and this verse is one of the most discussed verses within our church. I've noticed that some of the brothern takes this verse and apply it across the board. Women should not have authority over them period. I do not believe this is what the Apostle Paul ment when he wrote this verse. In context, scripture tends to indicate that Women should not be pastors. We're talking about Sunday morning Sermon from the Pulpit. Over in 1 Tim. 3:1 the qualifications for a bishop is listed. Notice in v.1 the word Man and He. V.2 he must be the 'HUSBAND of one wife'. V.4 rules HIS own house, and v.5 for if a MAN does not... Now the title Bishop can also be translated as Sheppard; Overseerer and Pastor (by todays definition). According to John Macarthur, the word 'permit', was translated from a greek word that is used in the New Testiment as; 'allowing someone to do what they desires'. He was not allowing women to do what the desired to do. Do they still have that desire today?? Yes they do. Also, notice this; before Jesus picked His disciples, he stayed up all night in prayer with the Father, the next day, he went out and picked twelve men. Our Lord and Savior was not noted for following tradition, He was noted however; for following the will of the Father. Personally, I think, all things considered, women pastors are in voilation of scripture. Take a GOOD look at Romans 15:4, II Tim. 3:16 and I Tim. 2:12 and let me know what you think. The CurtMan |
