Bible Question:
Do you keep away (vs 6), make special note and not associate (vs 14) with the lazy and those who gossip? Or do you violate God's command? I see many people listen to gossip as well a spread it. We need to stop talking about others, even with the "excuse" of making it a prayer request. Unless, we have: 1. Verified it to be true from the source 2. Received their permission to share it 3. Talked with God about sharing it 4. Make sure it edifies the body ... |
Bible Answer: Good question, Steve! This verse deals with people who gossip or who do not work, or are meddling in the affairs of others.. Verse 14 says that these "idlers" are to be ostracized from the company of believers in order to shame them into changing their ways. This is not a formal excommunication but group disapproval and social ostracism. The goal of this 'discipline' here is reformation and restoration of the offender. |
