NASB | 2 Thessalonians 2:6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Thessalonians 2:6 And you know what restrains him now [from being revealed]; it is so that he will be revealed at his own [appointed] time. |
Bible Question:
6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. Is it a HE or a WHAT that restrains the man of lawlessness? I would love to know what the Greek text says. In my KJV with Strong's numbers I can't see anything but the verb for "restrain" - no "who" and no "what". |
Bible Answer: Hello spared, "That which restraineth" [Gr. to katechon] is a verb which means "to hold fast" or "Hold back" as in Rom. 1:18. Robertson notes that "Unfortunately we do not know what Paul means by that which restrains". "He refers to some power which hinders the revelation of the man of sin or Antichrist", according to Vincent. I hope this helps, BradK |
