Bible Question: My pastor wouldn't marry me to my boyfriend b/c he doesn't know us spiritually due to the fact that we haven't attended that church (I'm a member of) in about a year. He had only been with our church for less than a week when he made this decision. He wouldn't talk to me to find out where I am spiritually (his assistant spoke with me on the phone). I am closer to Christ now that I watch TBN every day and listen to KLOVE everyday that I was when I only went to church every sunday. Should I be looking for another church? |
Bible Answer: We are called to respect the judgment of church leaders. "Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you." - 1Thess5:12. There may be good reasons your pastor is not yet willing to marry the two of you. If so, those reasons won't change if you go to another church and it would be unwise to get married anyway. The decision to look for another church should be based on severe problems that cannot be resolved, rather than one decision that you don't like, especially if that decision relates to something as important as marriage.
