NASB | 1 Thessalonians 4:13 ¶ But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Thessalonians 4:13 ¶ Now we do not want you to be uninformed, believers, about those who are asleep [in death], so that you will not grieve [for them] as the others do who have no hope [beyond this present life]. |
Bible Question: Does the bible say anything about mourning the loss of loved one especially about the length of time one should mourn. |
Bible Answer: Hi, paparis... Welcome to the forum! The mourning process is one that is common to all peoples. The Scripture does not give us any guidelines as to the length of time that mourning should occur. That would be entirely a cultural and personal matter. However, we do know that we do not grieve as those without hope. In English we use that word hope interchangeably with the word wish. Biblical hope, however, means a confident expectation. We who are believers know that our God is working out His eternal purpose in everything that takes place. Each molecule in the universe is in its proper place. Knowing the nature of God -- His love, His power, His wisdom, His holiness -- allows us to rest in Him, even through the difficult times of live. In Him, Doc |
