Bible Question (short): Should a wife submit to her husband? |
Question (full): I have a friend who is has been married for three years and has a son. She is 23. Before she got married or had her kid she was heavily into drugs yet had a promising modeling career which made her a lot of money. She met her husband because of her habit since he was into drugs too. At 19 she became pregnant with his child and decided that she needed to turn her life around. Her husband and her both became born-again Christians (non-denominational full gospel) and kicked their habit. You would think after going through that, all would be bliss. Not so. Her husband rules with an "iron hand" so to say. He forbid her from modeling even though she'd be making much more money than him. He won't let her even hang out with her brothers after dark. He's suspicious of everyone who calls to talk to her. Any time she get's into an argument with him over this he always worms his way out by saying that she has an "anger problem." Because she is being treated for depression, she believes him. She doesn't believe in counseling outside the church and he won't even go to that with her, saying "You're the one with the problem, not me." Time and time again me and her other friends tell her that this relationship is not healthy for her or her son. She is against divorce though, saying that the Bible doesn't allow it and believes that through prayer, she'll get him to turn around eventually. When I ask, if she won't get a divorce, why doesn't she just stand up to him, she says that the Bible says that wives have to submit to their husbands and she is going to follow everything the Bible says. My question is, does the Bible really say that? Or do I still have a chance to help her out? |
