Bible Note: alanh, Greetings. First of all in regards to Matthew 5:17 I did not state that the law was still in effect, the new covenant being superior to the first would obviously replace the previous one. A key word here is fulfill. Jesus was specific here, ther is a big difference between abolishing something and fulfillment. Abolisment no,fulfillment YES! This is a much discussed matter and that's why I almost always follow up with Romans 15:4. While there are certain things that because of what Jesus came, did and accomplished that are no longer necessary for us to practice. No the law is no longer in effect, but may I sugest that the heart of God and the guiding principle in which the OT was written is still in effect. That's why Romans 15:4. Paul even states that the law was our schoolmaster to lead us to Christ. While we are no longer bound by the law we are behooved to keep close to heart the guiding principle and morality that God used to guide and direct his people back in the day. In Christ, lionheart PS. We should always be learning. |
