AMPLIFIED 2015 | Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created in heaven and on earth, [things] visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [that is, by His activity] and for Him. |
Bible Question: What does it mean when it says IN Him all things were created? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Kiki! Excellent question! In Colossians 1:16, Paul stresses the supremacy of Christ over all things. The word translated 'in' is the Greek preposition 'en'. This preposition indicates the means by which all things were created. In this case, all things were created 'by Him' and 'for Him'. So, like the NASB, 'by Him' would be a better translation that 'in Him'. I hope this answers your question! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
