Bible Question:
Colossians 1:14 revisited; reference #137300. In comparing Colossians 1:14 with Ephesians 1:7 I agree with the TR text and the addition of "through His blood" for Colossians 1:14. I would then see the passages as a perfect match. Colossians 1:14, In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Ephesians 1:7, "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses,..." Any thoughts? From the heart, Ray |
Bible Answer: The Greek manuscripts of Colosians 1:14 having "through his blood" are 614 from the 13th century, 630 from the 14th century and 2464 from the 10th century. It is also supported by the Clementine version of the latin vulgate in 1592. Where is it in any early Greek manuscript? The goal of textual criticsm is to try to establish what was in the original manuscripts rather than what should be. This may have been inserted by a scribe familiar with the similar verse in Ephesians. |
