NASB | Philippians 3:8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Philippians 3:8 But more than that, I count everything as loss compared to the priceless privilege and supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord [and of growing more deeply and thoroughly acquainted with Him--a joy unequaled]. For His sake I have lost everything, and I consider it all garbage, so that I may gain Christ, |
Bible Question: Do christians have to count all things lost to learn of God? |
Bible Answer: That is not what the passage says. We have to make knowing Him our sumpreme value. All our knowledege, wealth, family is rubbish compared to knowing Him. It is a process. We need to gain more knowledge about Him daily. Dig into the Word yourself. When you read or hear what others say - first verify it and then add to your knowledge of Him. Read the context of the verse, which may be the whole chapter. We cannot have confidence in what we have, who we are, what we have done ... and we need to press toward the mark - we have not got there yet. |
