AMPLIFIED 2015 | Philippians 2:17 But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith [for preaching the message of salvation], still I rejoice and share my joy with you all. [Num 28:7; 2 Tim 4:6] |
Bible Question: Can someone explain this verse to me please? Is he taliking about being martyred? What is a drink offering? Thanks |
Bible Answer: Greetings Diomede! Num. 15:5 describes one drink offering prescribed by God. There are many other references to drink offerings in the OT. Paul did not know if he was going to live or to die. So, he used the image of a drink offering to describe what it would mean if he were to die. It would not be a waste. Rather, his death would be an offering to God on their behalf. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
