AMPLIFIED 2015 | Philippians 2:12 ¶ So then, my dear ones, just as you have always obeyed [my instructions with enthusiasm], not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation [that is, cultivate it, bring it to full effect, actively pursue spiritual maturity] with awe-inspired fear and trembling [using serious caution and critical self-evaluation to avoid anything that might offend God or discredit the name of Christ]. |
Bible Question:
Phil 2:12,13 1. What is meant by these verses? 2. Can a person lose his salvation based on these verses? |
Bible Answer: Phil 2-12. "Therefore" ties this verse to the previous section. "Work out your own salvation," in light of the preceding exhortation to unity, may mean that the entire church was in discord. The Philippian Christians needed to be especially careful to obey Christ, now that Paul wasn't there to continually remind them about what was right. We too must be careful about what we believe and how we live, especially when we are on our own. In the absence of cherished Christian leaders, we must focus our attention and devotion even more on Christ so that we won't be sidetracked. As far as lossing your own salvation? You may get sidetracked (as most of us do once in a while) But God will never leave you or forsake you. "Deuteronomy 31:8 and Hebrews 13:5" |
