AMPLIFIED 2015 | Philippians 1:27 ¶ Only [be sure to] lead your lives in a manner [that will be] worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I do come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit [and one purpose], with one mind striving side by side [as if in combat] for the faith of the gospel. |
Bible Question: why does God focus on the mind and the heart? |
Bible Answer: Hi zalezalaury, Welcome to the forum. Although the mind and heart are mentioned in this verse, I would not say that that is the focus. The two verses before it talk about rejoicing in the Lord for the Lord is near at hand. The NASB talks about a forbearing spirit that needs to be shown to men. I also think that the requests that are being made to God in these verses are "spiritual" requests. The peace of God does not come from setting our minds on earthly things, see Phil 3:19, but rather it comes from practicing the things and letting our minds dwell on the things of God. Philippians 3:20,21 says that we should wait for the transformation of our lowly body to be transformed into His glorious body. That is Spiritual power. Philippians 3:21, "...by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself. Hebrews 2:8, "Thou has put all things in subjection under His feet." All things are under His feet. The things of the mind, heart, and spirit. Somewhere on the forum I have spoken of the "things" found in Philippians. I may have miscounted, but I have counted 23 "things" in that one book alone. I think that the focus and key verse may very well be found in Philippians 1:27. "Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ; so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind [lit.soul] striving together for the faith of the gospel;..." These things can happen through the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Phil 1:19. 1 Peter 3:18, "For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; [Or, Spirit]" We look forward to your thoughts. From the heart, Ray |
