NASB | Deuteronomy 4:9 ¶ "Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Deuteronomy 4:9 ¶ "Only pay attention and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your grandchildren [impressing these things on their mind and penetrating their heart with these truths]-- |
Bible Question: Deuteronomy 4:9 asks us "Not to forget the things that we have seen" and it asks us not to forget to hand them down to our children and grandchildren. How does this verse relate to me and my everyday life in 2002? How can I obey this verse? |
Bible Answer: Think of it as an elongated testimony time. Sharing what the Lord has done in your life is an excellent teaching tool to young minds showing how the Lord is faithful in His dealings. That's why we find such a high premium in the OT on setting up stones and pillars and psalms of remembrance. The call is to remember the work of the Lord. Even in the Lord's Supper we have this portrayed--remembering Him. If we fail to tell the next generation, the people forget and move away from Him. Steve |
