Bible Question: Is it an accurate interpretation of Deut. 33:2 that God asked other nations to be his "Chosen People" before he asked Israel? |
Bible Answer: TwoHAWK: You ask: "Is it an accurate interpretation of Deut. 33:2 that God asked other nations to be his "Chosen People" before he asked Israel?" Deut. 33:2 NASB He said, "The LORD came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran, And He came from the midst of ten thousand holy ones; At His right hand there was flashing lightning for them. NIV He said: "The LORD came from Sinai and dawned over them from Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran. He came with myriads of holy ones from the south, from his mountain slopes. Today's English Version The Lord came from Mount Sinai; he rose like the sun over Edom and shone on his people from Mount Paran. Ten thousand angels were with him, a flaming fire at his right hand. God's Word Version He said, "The LORD came from Sinai. For his people he rose from Seir [like the sun]. He appeared like sunshine from Mount Paran. He came with tens of thousands of holy ones. On his right was a raging fire for them. TwoHAWK: Thank you for your question. With all respect, after reading the verse in four different translations, I cannot come up with the idea that "God asked other nations to be his 'Chosen People' before he asked Israel." Nor do I find anything in scripture to support such an idea. |
