Bible Note: You might look at "scribes" in the NT -- they would be the equivalent to what we call lawyers today. Matthew 23:3 says to do what they say, but not what they do. However, Christ also said "woe unto you" to them 13 times in the Gospels. A prophets would say "blessed" or "woe;" The former was a blessing the latter a curse. The fact that these guys were cursed so frequently would lead me to think that we ought to beware of them! (Please don't construe this as a condemnation of the entire legal profession!) |
