Bible Question: Is donating money to a charity considered offering? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Lorrainbow... Helping the poor is alms giving. In one sense it is an offering to the Lord, but only in a general sense. Offerings can have a very specific meaning (as in Leviticus 1 through 6). Offerings are a worshipful expression of our gratitude to God (Deuteronomy 12:11-12), and generally are given in support of of His work (Exodus 35:22) -- which in our own time means contributing to the work of the church.
