Subject: Two swords:is the love of God enough |
Bible Note: Greetings Ray! Jesus' comment in Luke 22:38 is interesting. It is apparent that 'it' cannot refer to the swords. As I have mentioned many times before, a pronoun must agree in gender and number with it's antecedent. 'Sword' is feminine and plural. 'It' is neuter and singular. Therefore, 'it' cannot refer to the two swords. However, there is no apparent antecedent either. So, it seems most likely that Jesus' comment is a dismissive one. 'It is enough' would then mean something like 'Enough of this talk'. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
