NASB | Ephesians 6:11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 6:11 Put on the full armor of God [for His precepts are like the splendid armor of a heavily-armed soldier], so that you may be able to [successfully] stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil. |
Bible Question: what are the wiles of the devil? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Pratt! The word translated as "wiles" is the Greek word 'methodeia.' It is used throughout literature to refer to craftiness, cunning, deception, and distortion. It seems to have all of these meanings in Eph. 6:11. (See also Eph. 4:14 where this word is also used.) Thus, the verse is saying that we need all of God's armor to stand firm against the insidious, cunning, and crafty schemes of the Devil. Without the whole armor, we will not be adequately protected.
