Bible Question: Is there a place in the Bible where it says that when a child becomes an adult he is to begin thinking for himself? Or are you always supposed to do whatever you parents say even if it isn't what you believe? |
Bible Answer: We have to obey our parents if they teach us the right things according to the commandments of God. It is not limited with how old we are, when our parents taught us the right things we m ust obey it is the commandments of God. Eph 6:1 ¶ Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Eph 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) Eph 6:3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. Parents also reminded to taught us the right things unto the Lord. Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Col 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Col 3:21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. If our parents lead us to disobey God! we have the right to do what is right. For example there are parents taught thier children to steal. These parents are not parents in the Lord. We dont have to obey them. Christ taught us regarding this: Lu 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. Christ said if we want to be His desciples we are ready to hate our family if they are the reason we cannot follow Christ. God bless, |
