Bible Question: A man who lived as a polygamist and then decided that God did not want him to live that way still believes polygamy is right in God's eyes. He and his family joined our fellowship through deceit. That's another story. He says that 1st Timothy 3;2 and 12 are translated wrong. That originally it was translated to read that the man was to still be married to his first wife, signifying that if he had more than one wife he must still be married to the original. This doesn't seem right to me, is it? Besides, if our Maker wanted us to have multiple wives, why did He make only Eve? Thank you and God Bless |
Bible Answer: Hello AKG-pa, We can look at Eph. 5 for an example of marriage: Eph 5:21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ. Eph 5:22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. (NASB) Polygamy is neither taught nor supported from scripture. His assertion about 1 Tim. 3:2, 12 is simply wrong! He's only making an assertion without any proof! When one is not in a right relationship with God, they can attempt to justify almost any behavior. I wouldn't worry too much about this man except to pray for him! Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |
