AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 5:22 ¶ Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as [a service] to the Lord. |
Bible Question:
Ephesians 5:22 We know from the bible, a daughter is submissive to her father, a wife to her husband. What about the widows and the divorced women? Who will be their heads? Are they under the cover of church instead? Azure |
Bible Answer: The answer is straightforward and found in the same verse. You note that the ultimate authority is the Lord. So, even if the husband is still living but asks the wife to do something that is inconsistent to the scriptures (e.g. forced prostitution) the wife reserves the right to refuse. Looking forward, in the absence of any male as the head, then Christ shall head both the widow and divorced parties (both husband and wife). You will note that there is practical difficulty to submit to a church (which consists of many belivers). It is unlikely for the person (after the trauma experience of losing the spouse) to submit to a body of belivers. However the person is strongly encouraged to join a local fellowship for mutual support and encouragement. |
