Bible Question:
My workmate who is a chain smoker and likes taking alcohol asked me a question which I have failed to convince him but believe God has an answer. He reads deutronomy 14:24-26, and in his key verse 26 he claims the authoritative word of God allows beer taking and even any ungodly leisure. it reads ''And you shall bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth:and you shall eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shall rejoice, thou and thine household. please help. |
Bible Answer: No! that verses is talking about celebration but not to be ungodly liesure: De 14:26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household, in the very end of that verse it was mentioned that "shall eat there before the lord" and lord did not tolerate ungodly liesure! It not mentioned there that even ungodly liesure! In the new testament apostle taught us not be drunkerness: Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Drunkeness is manifested of the flesh: Ga 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Ga 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Ga 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. We can drink wine, bt not to be drunk of wine. Wine (red wine is good for highblood pressure)you can drink wine but it depend upon your motive to drink it. Apostle paul told timothy to drink wine instead of water because of timoty's stomach condition: 1Ti 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. So you can drink wine, but not to be drunk of wine. God bless, Johnny |
