Bible Question:
In Eph.5:17 how would you best translate this verse and what does it does it say to you personally when you read it? |
Bible Answer: Lady Burnette: The NASB translates the verse adequately, it appears. I really don't believe it says anything to me 'personally' that it does not say to any other reader. The Apostle is saying to stop being foolish, (unwise, senseless) but understand (perhaps to become divinely enlightened by prayer and meditation) what the will of the Lord is. The entrace of God's word gives light and understanding. (Psalm 119:130). The key to knowing God's will is knowing God's word. What the Apostle says here in this verse is not unlike what he said to Timothy: "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Tim.2:15) or what the Psalmist said in 119:105: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." --Hank |
