AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [but seek to please Him], by whom you were sealed and marked [branded as God's own] for the day of redemption [the final deliverance from the consequences of sin]. [Eph 1:13, 14; Phil 3:20, 21] |
Bible Question: IN WHAT WAYS DO WE GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT? PLEASE GIVE SCRIPTURE REFERENCES. |
Bible Answer: The simple answer to your question is disobedience. To grieve the Holy Spirit is to sadden Him, to give sorrow. I would suggest beginning with that portion of Scripture which speaks of grieving the Holy Spirit, and study Ephesians 4:17-32. There are a number of behaviors mentioned which reflect living according to the old man. We are to "put on the new man", to begin to walk as Jesus walked. I think that it is when we choose to walk in the flesh, and do the deeds of the flesh, that we sadden the Holy Spirit, because we are choosing trash over the most beautiful and wonderful God and Creator, Who loves us, and gave Himself for us. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
