AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [but seek to please Him], by whom you were sealed and marked [branded as God's own] for the day of redemption [the final deliverance from the consequences of sin]. [Eph 1:13, 14; Phil 3:20, 21] |
Bible Question: Thank you for your response, much appreciated. I struggle with my sin, am overwhelmed by it at times. I was a drug addict my entire life and lived and loved all of my sin. Now I have accepted Christ yet worry that not all of my sins are gone, just the major ones. So if I am struggling with my sins(I do hate them) I can use that as an indicator that I'm in the faith? I worry a lot about all the sins of my past, and if I'm really going to heaven. Mostly, I feel confident of it, yet there's always this little nagging "voice" questioning it.(are you REALLY going to heaven? just like the serpent in the garden) Now another question. Do you think that is spiritual warfare or just my old nature showing up? |
Bible Answer: Dear Starstuff, Mark gave a good answer to you, in his first post. Brad, as always, has provided you a thorough and Biblically sound reply. The verses he cites are right to the point. Even when people hedge about their talk of meritorious Christian behavior with the subject of grace, it usually masks a root of self-righteousness. This is so, so common today! You should know that there is nothing you can do to make God love you less. What's more, there is nothing you can do to make God love you more! Those are the the things that reveal what a works based mind-set. There is nothing you add to the mix for your salvation. What you must do is learn to wholly depend -- wholly! -- on the merit of Christ's atonement alone, not on any merit of your own. What you really need, is to be solidly grounded in the Word in regard to your faith. If you are willing to commit sixty days (maybe an hour a day) to that effort, you can find the kind of instruction you need from the following ministry: http://www.settingcaptivesfree.com/ There are a number of free courses to take there. Based on some of your comments, I'd suggest the "New Wine" course. In Him, Doc |
