Bible Answer: Hi, In2Jesus... The word doctrine simply means teaching. In the passage you cited, John was speaking of the teachings of Christ and the Apostles. Paul encourages us to do the same thing here in Ephesians and throughout his epistles. When we say "we are no longer under the law" what we mean is that we are no longer under the penalty of the law.
